Doctor Speak

Doctors are funny people, take our OB-GYN for example. At today's visit she was giving us the results of our ultrasound (from which we were not given any pictures to show off...what a jip!)and described them as "good".

Now I don't know about you, but when you're describing the health of a child growing inside of someone (especially my wife!), as far as I am concerned, "good" doesn't cut it. Good is a word you use to describe your mother-in-law's cooking, or a below average episode of Battle Star Galactica. When someone is describing my kid, I want them to use adjectives like: brilliant, great, super, stupendous...then I would know that my kid was really exceptional.

I guess we live in a society of relativism and subjectivity, so I can't expect someone to feel about this kid the same way I do, but is a little bit of a creative vocabulary too much to ask for?

Long Time

Well it's been a long time since I posted, and only a short time (3 days) since I made the promise to publish something every day. Guess I fucked up...sorry about that, but hopefully I'll develop the habit of blogging sooner or later.

It's been a bit of a crazy week, I had an assignment for my Magazine writing course to write, and I had to get off of my ass and finish editing my thesis for the publishers, which was a few weeks over due. But now it's Friday, and I have no specific deadlines, and I have spent it sitting around watching the Daily Show.

I mentioned time a lot in the first paragraph, I guess that's kinda because I am convinced that the good people at OralB have cracked the "time machine". Now like most novel technologies the first application is kinda lame...it's in the form of a toothbrush. The one I am talking about is named, appropriately, the Triumph Professional Care 9000 and it has a clock on it which times how long you have been brushing.

Now I have known how long a minute was since I started school, and I have enough experience in waiting out the clock to know what a minute should feel like...but with this toothbrush a minute feels like an hour. It's a very strange thing to look down at your toothbrush's timer thinking "it must have been three minutes by now" to realize you have only been brushing your teeth for 30 seconds.

Now I don't know how far the brush's temporal field extends...perhaps it's just big enough to encompass my head, but this could be very useful...next time I have a deadline and I need more time, I'm just gonna start brushing my teeth with my little time-machine cum toothbrush and buy myself a few more hours.

P.S. does anyone else think it's kinda strange that Toothbrush is one word?
